The last month of this year has started and we are already looking back on this very unusual year of 2020.
I started this painting in October and was actually looking for a new motif even earlier. There weren't that many portraits this year. For this I was allowed to discover landscape painting. That would certainly not have happened under normal circumstances. I was never outside as much as this year and discovered our Hessian nature in a completely new way. Then I came across this motif, already in September, but it wasn't until October that I knew I should paint it. Since I was working on three pictures at the same time, this was only finished yesterday. I now believe that should be the case. It was only during the painting process that I realized why I was painting this picture and what it should express. It has a lot to do with the Hebrew meaning of the year 2020, with the global situation / shock, but also with new opportunities, harvest and new life. In the Hebrew language the year 2020 means "Kaph", which means something like two open blessing hands. But hand also means: "jad" and Psalm 91 begins with a "jad" and ends with a "jad". Psalm 91 certainly has a special meaning for many of you this year. I am very moved to see that this is at the beginning of the psalm and the end, which should also mean that we are completely surrounded by God. He's got us in his hands. I need to know this so much.
I was also moved by the story of Gideon in the Book of Judges in chapter 6. Gideon is desperate to save the harvest and God encourages Gideon, saying that He is with him and will save them. Then I had such incredible experiences in nature with the wheat and God spoke so deeply to me. It was all so much God's talking with that picture. He is going to make a big difference through this year of shaking. Yes, God spoke through many people of a harvest. The harvest has begun and God is also doing this through our art. What a glorious, holy and almighty God. To Him alone be glory.
